Trekking Permits

Trekkers need special permit cards to enter Everest Region. So, to get the permit card you can visit Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu or you can get it in Monjo. Monjo is the gateway to enter the Sagarmatha National Park. The Sagarmatha National Park entry permit costs NRS 3000 for foreigners and for SAARC countries it costs NRS 1500. Also, for the Khumbu Region entry permit card, you need to pay NRS 2000. The requirement for these permit cards is your passport or a copy of it. These are the permit cards you need during the EBC Trek:

  • Khumbu Region municipality Entry Permit Card

 

Is Everest Base Camp Trekking so difficult?

Climbing above 5000 meters is not an easy trip to do. However, if you are physically fit and mentally prepared you can complete this trek in given EBC trek Itinerary. It is labeled as a moderate trek. But, for the beginners, EBC trek can be tough one. The remoteness of the trail and diverse train makes this trek quite challenging. The EBC trekking trail passes through different rocky trail, up hills, downhills, suspension bridges etc. Moreover, if you don’t hydrate yourself properly it can be troublesome for you. So, throughout the trek drink plenty of water.

What to pack for Everest Base Camp Trekking?

Best quality backpack which is comfortable to carry is always important. A 40-50 Liters of Backpack is best for this trek. So, the question is what to carry inside the backpacks? In terms of clothing, Layers are the most important. There are 3 layers of clothing that soaks yours sweat from the body, one protects you from the cold and the other is wind or waterproof. Moreover, have some pair of gloves for cold morning at Kalapatthar or EBC.

Having a down jacket of your own during the whole trek is very essential. Likewise, waterproof jacket will be useful to be safe from snow/rain/wind. We suggest to carry Hiking pants and shorts. Pants with side zipper is highly recommended. Shorts are very useful for sunny days. Likewise, fleece pants during the evening time keeps you warm. In terms of footwear, waterproof Hiking boots or shoes are most preferable. Not to forget to pack necessary toiletries like towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorants, toilet paper, etc.

 

Trekking gear for the EBC Trek

Trekking gear plays vital role for your successful trip to EBC. Duffel bag of 90 Liters would be perfect to fit your trekking stuffs. Likewise, good sleeping bag rated to -15 degrees Celsius helps you keep warm during the night. Even though, lodges will provide you warm quilt but it is better to have your own. Trekking poles which are adjustable always comes handy during the rough trail. If you are planning to trek EBC during the winter season, better to carry Crampons. It makes easy and comfortable to hike on the snow and ice glaciers. Carry a small headlight which is needed during the walk from Gorakshep to Kalapatthhar early in the morning. It might be useful even in the other part of treks as well.

Best time to do EBC Trek

Apart from Monsoon season almost every season is best for EBC Trek. However, you need to be very careful while trekking in winter season. The temperature during the winter is extremely cold. It reaches to -20 degrees Celsius during the winter season at the Base Camp. Though, Spring and Autumn season gives you spectacular views of mountain peaks. The temperature and weather is endurable during this two seasons.
